The Power of the Gospel

Scripture Reading: Romans 1:16–17 (ESV)

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Paul declares that he is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. This short passage is the heartbeat of the entire letter to the Romans. The gospel is not simply advice for living or encouragement for hard times. It is the very power of God that brings life to the dead, hope to the hopeless, and transformation to the lost.

Paul reminds us that the gospel reveals the righteousness of God. This is not something we earn or produce on our own. It is a gift given to us through faith in Jesus Christ. We are made right with God not by works but by trusting in what Christ has done.

As we pray today, let us ask God to help us never lose sight of the beauty and power of the gospel. May we carry it with boldness and confidence, knowing that it is still the power of God for salvation in our world today.

Prayer Points:

  • Thank God for the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Pray for boldness to share the gospel with others.

  • Ask God to renew your awe at the power of His saving work.
